    Abstract
This congregational history traces the development of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, from its founding in 1942 to the early 2000s. Initiated by the WELS District Mission Board, Bethany began with six families and grew steadily through evangelism, community outreach, and partnerships in Christian education. The congregation built its first chapel in 1949 and a permanent worship facility in 1968. Over the decades, Bethany expanded its ministry, called multiple pastors and teachers, and contributed to Lakeside Lutheran High School and St. Paul’s School. Challenges such as pastoral transitions and perceptions of doctrinal leniency were met with prayer, instruction, and a commitment to Gospel outreach. A strong sense of family and volunteerism fostered growth, culminating in the addition of educational facilities and a preschool. By 2004, Bethany served over 1,200 baptized members, continuing its mission to proclaim Christ crucified with faithfulness and joy. —Abstract generated by Microsoft Copilot (GPT-4)
